MONTE VISTA MARCHING BAND

Marching Band Logo by Nicola Bezuidenhout
Marching Band is an active, competitive, and friendly campus group that is open to all MVHS students. This award-winning program has three components--Marching Band (MB), Color Guard (CG), and Drum Line (DL). Freshmen receive one semester of Fine Arts credit and Sophomores through Seniors can choose either Fine Arts or PE credit.
Marching Band kicks off with our summer camp in late July/August with the season continuing through the fall.
Any MV student can try out Marching Band through the camp. No pre-registration required for the camp and no additional cost. Just turn up!! (Click on the Schedule link for dates/times.) During the school season the band competes in 3-5 competitions in Northern California, performs at home football games and pep rallies, and participates in various other events. For funding and participation costs, and a complete overview of Marching Band, see below and click on the FAQs link.

COMMUNICATION
Weekly email bulletins provide information on upcoming competitions, practices, etc. If you're not receiving these regular bulletins, email marchingband@mvkeynoters.org to be added to the distribution list. Follow our Keynoters Instagram page to get news FAST! Great way to stay in the loop, get calendar reminders of Marching Band events, and see great photos and videos!
PARTICIPATION COSTS
The Marching Band program is funded 100% from participation donations from families and some student fundraising. Participation donations cover coaching fees, music, uniforms, instrument purchase and repair, bus and truck transportation, and competition entry fees. Suggested participation donation amounts are based on how much it actually costs to operate the Marching Band program each year.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS
Parent support is an integral part of Marching Band and we depend on the help of each of our families. Watch for regular email and SignUpGenuis requests for how you can help and support your student, such as:
-
Drive equipment truck
-
Load and unload equipment truck

Chaperone students to and from competitions
-
Help move instruments at competition

FAMILY POTLUCK AND SHOWCASE
Learn more about Marching Band and Color Guard, meet other parents and learn how to get involved to support your student. Following our potluck, enjoy a special showcase performance led by our director, Ed Cloyd. Prepare to be amazed at what our musicians and color guard can accomplish in just two short weeks!
Bring your lawn/camping chairs and/or picnic blankets and meet outside in front of Student Union. Keynoters will provide dinner. Watch for a SignUpGenius email to provide potluck items, e.g., salads, drinks, desserts and condiments, and to volunteer for set up, cooking, serving and clean up.
UNIFORMS AND FITTING DAY
Our Keynoters booster group funds uniforms for all Marching Band and Color Guard students. (Families are required to provide shoes.) Click on the Marching Band FAQS tab at the top of this page to find out what a plume is and to learn about all the other pieces of a Marching Band uniform--there are many!
A UNIFORM FITTING DAY is scheduled at MVHS to fit students with uniforms and to teach them how to care for uniforms during the season so they remain clean and pressed and may be used the following year. Drop-in fitting times are scheduled separately for girls and boys. ALL STUDENTS (except Color Guard) are required to attend! Watch for an email on dates/times for the current season.
Students should wear clothing similar to what they wear underneath their uniform during performances and that requires a minimal amount of undressing. Students change in the band room so please dress accordingly.
